Jepsen Backs Out of Boy Scout Appearance!

For months Carly Rae Jepsen of ‘Call Me Maybe’ fame has been booked to perform at the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia (boy, doesn’t that sound like fun) but she recently called off the appearance, and the plans came to a screeching halt.

But why Carly?! Tell us why?! Is it because you can’t rub two stick together to create a blazing wild fire? Is it because you are envious of all the qualifying badges that would surround you for acts of kindness? Are you afraid that a black bear is going to pop out of a cave, hungry from hibernation and go after your leg?!

NO. ACTUALLY.

Jepsen pulled out of the concert because of the Boy Scout’s ban on openly gay scout leaders and scouts!

Jepsen said,

“As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer,” 

Girl didn’t even hesitate, or offer for the troops to ‘Call her Maybe’ about the change in plans. However, our society is eager to complain about, well the status of our ‘society’, and by taking this step Jepson is clearly being the change she would like to see in the world.

And I LOVE it.

Her example is already making headlines. The musical group Train was also slated to rock out at the Jamboree with Jepsen, but since she cancelled the show, they have done the same thing!

Carly Rae continued,

“I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level … and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.”

It’s as simple as that.

Since backing out of the show, Train did contact the National Scout board to offer a reschedule date if they change their anti-gay policy. However, I’m not so sure that they should hold their breath, or pack their bags for the hills of West Virginia anytime soon.

Although I am shocked that Jepsen and Train have cancelled their show, I’m also excited at the opportunity that this may create for those affected by the boy scouts’ policies. Really, I have a feeling that other superstars including Lady Gaga might be in line to follow suit.
