Lily learns a new word.

Fact: Swearing is both cool and funny. I don’t know if little kids make swearing funnier, or if swearing makes little kids who do it cooler. But that doesn’t matter.

In this week’s episode of Modern Family, Lily learns a new word. A new four letter word. A new four letter word that rhymes with “puck.” (Hint: It’s fuck.) Cute little Lily says fuck. Eight times, to be exact.

The main – and titular – plot line is MitCam (Cameron and Mitchell) prepping little Lily to be a flower girl for a wedding. The unambiguously gay duo fawns over her in all the expected ways: Cam makes it all about himself, and they both critique the design of the flower girl dress (“If the bride want’s to have a tacky wedding, she can have a tacky wedding”).

There’s actually been a lot of hullabaloo in the media about Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, the actress who plays Lily. People are up and arms about the show’s writers/director getting her to swear so much. Newsflash: She’s not actually saying “fuck.” They’re bleeping it, people. The cute little girl could be saying anything! They’re just making you think she’s swearing (and apparently doing a great job).

The second plot features the Dunphy crew playing political advisers for mom’s run for city counsel. They point out everything annoying and obnoxious she does, including (but not limited to): Finger pointing, nagging, lip pursing, eye rolling, etc. They nitpick her so much, I half expected actress Julie Bowen to storm off camera. Despite ripping her to pieces, she’s still MILF status to this humble viewer. In the end, they weren’t able to help much. Claire and Phil ended up going viral.

The last plot line showed Gloria and Jay fighting (what’s new?) over Gloria’s distaste for Jay’s dog Stella. I don’t remember a ton of what went on with these part of the episode, because, uh, well, Sofia Vergara fell in a pool. How am I supposed to pay my fullest attention (See also: Any attention) with spilling out of her dress while climbing out of a pool. I’m not.

Just a heads up: After taking a week off, Modern Family will be back on air next week, February 8th.
